Harmony, Texas, is a place where dreams are born. As the townspeople face unexpected endings and new beginnings, they also come face to face with themselves—and what’s most important in life...

When Tinch Turner lost his wife, he gave up on living. Now he spends his nights brooding, boozing, and brawling. For the first time in years, he feels a spark, but Addison Spencer wants nothing to do with the unruly rancher—or any man for that matter. She’s only in Harmony four months, long enough for the trouble she left behind to be over. But then a vulnerable little boy barrels into both their lives, forcing them out of the past—and into a future where love is just down the road...

In the meantime, as Reagan Truman grieves for her beloved uncle, she finds comfort in the makeshift family she’s made in Harmony—and in a new baby, the first born in the Wright Funeral Home in 45 years, proving to everyone that life does go on…

sweetly sensual second-chance romance
By Virginia Campbell
"Just Down the Road" is my first visit to Jodi Thomas' charming fictional community of Harmony, TX. Where have I been? I was missing something really good--heartwarming romance with a touch of pathos and mystery-suspense. I have read other works by Jodi Thomas, and she always writes heart with humor, and that is a very good thing! Let me just say this about the character of Tinch Turner--the lonesome cowboy with a loving, true heart--where is my very own Tinch? When Tinch married his high school sweetheart and best friend, Lori Anne, he never dreamed that cancer would claim her at a young age. He acts out his grief by boozing, brawling, and brooding about what he'll never have again. A frequent visitor to the ER for after-fight medical care, Tinch sits up and takes notice when he meets the new ER doctor, Addison Spencer. Something about the pale, uptight, lovely woman makes Tinch want to clean up his act. When he discovers that Addison is his closest neighbor, "just down the road" from his place, things really get interesting. Often prickly, and always intriguing, Addison is far from indifferent to Tinch. She only plans to be in Harmony for a few months, and she left her former home to be free from her father and her almost-fiance. Meeting a gorgeous man unlike anyone she's ever known was definitely not on her agenda. Tinch's life takes another dramatic turn when he is suddenly given the care of his orphaned nephew, whose mother was Lori Anne's sister. Jamie is a dear little boy in need of much TLC. His drug-addicted mother's involvement with drug dealers left her dead and Jamie beaten and bruised. Tinch and Addison both feel the need to care for the child, and Addison begins staying at Tinch's house to help with Jamie. The three of them become close, and each has hopes and dreams of what a future together could mean. When the drug dealers return, searching for a fortune in cash, the very real danger they present may bring those dreams to an end. Will two lost hearts, who didn't even know they were looking for love, come together with one small boy and find real happiness as a family? There are wonderful supporting characters in "Just Down the Road"--old friends from the Harmony community who also seek resolution and a happy ending. Part of the pleasure of this book was getting a feel for the town, its people, and a glimpse of down-home Texas living. Even though I have lived in a very small town for most of my life, I never tire of "small town" romances. Small towns sometimes hold big secrets! People are very interconnected. What happens to one person affects someone else, and the ripple effect is started. However, there is an essential sweetness to small towns. Memories of earlier days, some bittersweet, are held dear. People aren't just faces, they're family and friends. There's always a second chance for first loves in small towns.

4th in the Harmony Series
By Gemms
Just Down the Road is the 4th in the Harmony Series.. and again we meet new characters that we have never met before and touch base with a few we have met before.. But the focus has drifted from Reagan with whom this all started and starts following the new characters and barely remembers all the other characters I actually liked.. After all that we went thru with Ronelle in the last books she only shows up a few times with food etc. and the undertaker as to again wait for his army lady (his Kate) good grief I want to help him.. a good tried and true Southern saying fits him so well "Bless his heart". Noah shows up for a long stay (for him) and he and Reagan seem to be getting somewhere (just not sure how it happened cause we got left out of the details) Instead we have moved to two totally new characters and the mess they are both in. Doc Spencer is so wrapped up in her shallow self you just do not want to like her and Tinch is a great guy that should have done a better job protecting things after the author played up all his plans.. pretty wimpy if you ask me.. and why we are on the subject of jobs the little Sheriff who is always bragged upon by the author as being so good.. always seems to never be there when things are going down.. in real life if someones life is in danger I would hope that the sheriff would do a better job protecting people.. Our climax is on the high side of stupid and of course we had to throw Reagan in some how to keep her in the story which I thought the orginal book was about. Anyway.. the book leaves us finally with Noah and Reagan which leads me to believe that maybe just maybe the 5th book will be about them.. I shall hope.. because the other characters are getting old and not sure if I can handle even more new characters on top of the already confused pile.

Ok.. just checked out the 5th book and it does not look good.. seems like new characters are here again.. not sure how long this series is going to be.. I just want to see what happens to Reagan and Noah..

Consistent Writing
By Lisa McGeen
I was very excited for the next installment in the Harmony series to come out and I was not left disappointed. So much happens and change for the town's people of Harmony, Texas in Just Down The Road. Not only do we get to meet a few new members of town but we get to revisit the members we have already meet and get caught up on their lives. One of my favorite parts about this series is that it follows so many lives yet does not overwhelm the reader or cut anyone's story short. Jodi Thomas is amazing at finding the balance in the characters.

The main story line of Just Down The Road is that of Tinch Turner, who lost his wife to cancer a few years ago and has really given up on life. He gets himself into more trouble and well the town just feels pity for him. One night that trouble lands him in the Emergency Room and face to face with Addison Spencer, the new doctor in town. It is clear from the beginning that Addison has issues of her own and wants nothing to do with Tinch but somehow there is just some spark there that she cannot deny. That is only intensified one night when a little boy shows up at her home in the middle of a mess. The little boy, Jamie, is Tinch's sister-in-law's son, who Tinch didn't know existed. Jamie's mother was murdered and had left a will that Jamie was to go to Tinch. In the middle of the sheriff trying to dropped Jamie off to Tinch, Jamie takes off and ends up at Addison's rent house just down the road from Tinch. The boy quickly adopts both Tinch and Addison. Addison begins to stay the night at Tinch's home to help take care of Jamie and keep him happy. Both Addison and Tinch battle their inner demons when it comes to relationships and how they feel about each other. Both of them are very stubborn.

This main story line was heartfelt and touching. It was painful at first to know what Jamie had gone through but then a blessing to see how this one little boy can change the lives of adults who thought they were stuck and there was nothing left for them. When I posted a teaser of this book, it was about some painful bruising that Jamie had. I was excited for someone to recognize that Jodi Thomas is great at make a child like this a hero in the end.

This alone would have been a great book but what makes it outstanding in my point of view is that we also get to revisit Reagan and her situation. Her uncle whom took her in passes away early in this story and she is faced with grieving for him and worrying about Noah, her rodeo riding best friend, who has not been returning any phone calls when she needs him the most. When Noah does show up, he finds Big at the house and the men have words. Reagan has to figure out how to balance the two best friends she has and if she wants more from one of them.

Next there is Tyler. He is dealing with Karen, the love of his life away on her last mission in the army and unable to contact him and the young woman, Autumn, who he took in and is due to have her baby any day. While this story line is not primary a lot changes for Tyler in the last little bit of the book and I am crazy excited to see what come up next for him.

These are the major story lines but there are a few more smaller ones, as well. It will be interesting what Harmony #5 brings. I didn't think that I could enjoy the series any more than I already did but boy was I wrong. The writing and plot of this book was extremely well done. I hope that you will check it out and Jodi Thomas' guest post on my blog from yesterday. If you like strong romance with a lot of plot and stuff going on check this series out!
