Holiday Time In Ashton Corners
By F. Yoder
Read and Buried is the second book in the An Ashton Corners Book Club series. I really am enjoying this series. The author tells a wonderful story and it reads at a nice even pace. The cast of characters run from around 17 to 70 and are all interesting in their own way.
It is a couple weeks before Christmas in Ashton Corners and everyone is busy getting ready to celebrate the holidays. Lizzie Turner has stopped by the Book Bin to check out the latest mysteries. Jensy, the owner, introduces her to author Derek Alton and suggests that maybe Alton could be a guest at the next meeting of Lizzie's book club. Alton then stops by Lizzie's home to learn more about the members of the club. Just as they are start a shot rings out and Alton is killed.
A couple days later another shot is fired into Lizzie house, narrowly missing her while fixing her breakfast. Now, Lizzie the book club and the police are thinking that maybe she was the intended victim.
It is soon learned that Alton had ties to Ashton Corners, and now Lizzie and the book club will discreetly be looking for the murderer before they strike again.
A wonderful cozy and am looking forward to the next book.

cozy snooze
By Annie
There was nothing really wrong with this book. The setting was cozy, the characters quirky but likable, the victim was unlikable and there were lots of clues to make you think you "knew who dun it and why." But the characters had no depth this time, the clues were too obvious and the timing dragged. What bothered me the most was that the police seemed to do nothing. Why didn't they find out who the victim was in the past? Why weren't they following up on his background instead of following the person who was somewhat repetitively interviewing people and getting the same info over and over. I was interested to the end but it was a slow drowsy read instead of a crisp walk in a winter wonderland.

A One Time Award Winner Novelist Dies
By J & L Rigod
There is a book reading club with a tasty title of "Ashton Corners Mystery Readers and Cheese Straws Society." The members range, in ages, from teenage to golden.
Lizzie Turner, a teacher, and member of the book club, is trapped into asking an author still living on his one award winning title, to speak at their club by the local bookstore owner. Derek Alton, the author is impressed with himself and arrives, after a disastrous dinner the evening before, at Lizzie's home to acquaint himself with the persons in the club that he will be speaking to. Instead, Derek is felled by a bullet through Lizzie's front window.
When a fellow book club member is accused of having something to do with the killing, Lizzie marches in. What she finds not only shakes up her world, but, the underbelly of Ashton Corners is rocked.
This was a sweet paced Southern murder mystery. The characters are well drawn and likeable. The victim was well chosen and Ashton Corners is well off without him.
This is the second book in the series and I look forward to future novels.
