Uninvited Ghosts and Guests !
By J & L Rigod
E.J. Copperman has penned another page-turning, laugh filled, and excellent murder mystery. The Title of the book is "An Uninvited Ghost." The Title should be "The Uninvited Ghosts and Guests."

Resident Guesthouse Owner, new Private Investigator, Alison, tries to keep order in her first week of opening her dream guesthouse in New Jersey. She already has the support of her darling daughter, Melissa. Her Mother, and Two resident ghosts. Now, the house is filled with a Senior Plus tour-group whom are excited by the prospect of timed ghost encounters, next a reality show group of 20-somethings that are known for their migraines and showing too much flesh, finally, she even invites a charming woman in her 80's that Ghost friend, Paul wants to prove is still alive.

No worries, the lady is until, she isn't!

Be prepared to laugh like crazy, perhaps until you need that headache medicine yourself, be prepared to fall in love with the ghosts, and cherish the friends, police woman, and everyone else in the book. Be prepared to aid all in solving a very unique murder mystery and quite satisfactorily.

I see an award nomination down the road...Mr. Copperman has been overlooked, in my opinion. Night of the Living Deed (A Haunted Guesthouse Mystery)Some Like It Hot-Buttered (A Double Feature Mystery)

like film noir on laughing gas
By Autumn
If you had the ghost of Philip Marlow (picture Bogart here) stuck in a house filled with a gaggle of uninvited busy bodies, a film crew and a determined woman with her young daughter, what would you get? A murder mystery of zany proportions.

While this is not the first "ghost" detective books I have read (Cleo Coyle did it first with her "Haunted Bookshop" series), this is certainly the funniest. Alison is running a guest house with her mother, daughter and two ghosts(yes, they talk to her) when a virtual army of odd "guests" arrive to get things hopping. The "murder" in question is brought to the attention of Alison via a "ghost" friend of her resident "ghost"...if that isn't enough to tell you how different this book is, hold onto your ectoplasm.

A combination of witty, tongue-in-cheek humor, outright zany antics, an overt murder that is not as easy to figure out as it first appears, I found this novel a refreshing take on the cozy genre and the "paranormal" craze. Ghosts that are more like living(although invisible) people make for an entertaining mixture in the overall B&B mystery series. With genuinely likable characters and a traditional murder mystery wrapped in comic relief, I would recommend this series to all who enjoy a good mystery and a little ghostly humor. Excellent.

Since I mentioned it above, the "Haunted Bookshop" series by Cleo Coyle writing as Alice Kimberly is another excellent "ghostly detective" series. It is a bit more serious with its mysteries but still very entertaining in the way that the "ghost" assists with solving things, especially when he is talking in the background(in the woman's head) while she is trying to carry on a conversation with various people. They develop a very comfortable and caring relationship...as much as one could have with a ghost. Highly recommended.

Ghost sightings twice daily...
By Marlyn
In the second of the Haunted Guesthouse mysteries, Alison Kerby welcomes the first paying guests to her home.

Alison is now a licensed private investigator, having agreed to help resident ghosts Paul Harrison (former P.I.) and Maxie Malone (former owner of the house) with the occasional investigation provided they'd appear for her lodgers twice a day. These particular guests are the first group (hopefully of many, if their experience is positive) from a company offering unique vacation experiences to seniors.

Meanwhile, Scott McFarlane, a ghost acquaintance of Paul's asks him to investigate a prank he was asked to play on an elderly woman, which he fears may have resulted in her death. Since Paul is unable to leave Alison's house, it falls to her to find out whether the woman, who turns out to be prominent local citizen Arlice Crosby, is alive or dead.

But Alison's life is nothing if not eventful, and while all this is going on, the executive producer of a reality show called Down the Shore (which sounds suspiciously like an actual reality show that is filmed in New Jersey) that the guesthouse would make a perfect backdrop for the next season of the program. Alison is loathe to agree to his proposal, until she find out how much she'd be paid. Suddenly, her idea for turning the attic into a luxury suite looks much more possible.

All the above details make it sound as if the plot will be a complicated mess, but it isn't. The confusion is fun, and the characters (even the ones who aren't really there) are interesting enough to keep the reader from turning out the light until the final page has been turned.
