Rising and Falling with Thea Harrison

I won a copy of the book so I had a head start before it was released. I liked this series. Sometimes when authors and artists explore their craft they create a work that goes against what people expect of them. While I liked this series I think many will not. I base this on the early reviews that I have read. The romance is not the central focus of this story. I do find Mary and Michael's relationship interesting and the fundamental disagreement between a healer and a warrior is very realistic. Can a soldier and a healer really be together when one protects by preserving life and the other protects by destroying it? This is a deeply philosophical book. The battle between the deceiver and Michael, Mary and Astra is really on the back burner. This is a story that explores the characters who are old souls examining their purpose in the great scheme of things. Mainstream readers will most likely not enjoy this book. I applaud Thea Harrison's courage to try something different. Her Elder Races series is much loved and a fantastic set of books. This story is completely different and I recommend that fans of the Elder Races books read the sample before purchasing. This is an interesting world that is much more serious and intense. Not for everyone. I hope that Thea Harrison continues to explore her writing as she sees fit. I would rather read 100 experiments by Thea Harrison than a mainstream blockbuster that is a formula to please people.

LOVED IT! Since I really enjoyed Rising Shadows, Book 1 in the Game of Shadows series, I could hardly wait to read Falling Light, Book 2! Falling Light picks up right where Rising Shadows ended.
Michael has finally found Mary and the two re-united lovers must make their way to re-join Astra while avoiding the Deceiver. I love the scenes with Michael and Mary - their chemistry is passionate and pulled my heart-strings tightly. Without Astra, they cannot hope to put away the Deceiver, but with Astra, they may be ending their own existence and the future they've dreamed of. Trusting the wrong person can end all hope. I loved the story and the surprising twists were beyond anything I'd imagined.
If you haven't read Rising Shadows, I would highly recommend that you read it 1st. Falling Light is not a stand-a-lone read. AND... if you love Rising Shadows, as I did, this is a must-read! Be aware that this series is nothing like The Elder Series, which I also love... Thea's captivating story-telling and the way her writing flows doesn't change... it's a treat in both series.
